A Message from Our Founder & Director, Kamaria Hooker:
Hello and welcome! My name is Kamaria Hooker, and I am proud to be the founder and director of Prime Time Dance Academy.
My dance journey began at just 2 years old, under the guidance of my mother. Over the years, I trained extensively in a wide range of styles including ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, liturgical, African, modern, and pointe—devoting 18 years to my development as a dancer and artist.
Some of my earliest and fondest memories are of dancing in the foyer of my childhood home. I’d sift through my mom’s CD binder—filled with hundreds of songs across genres and generations—until I found the perfect track. Then, I'd dance. Over and over again. I loved the freedom of creating something all my own. It was in those moments that I realized dance—and teaching dance—was my true calling.
As a teenager, I began writing and dreaming about directing full productions. That dream became reality in 2010 when I directed my first show. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of directing and choreographing numerous productions including Annie, The Lion King, Swan Lake, A Christmas Carol, The Wizard of Oz, Hairspray, and Cinderella—just to name a few.
For over a decade, I’ve worked alongside the incredible Lee County Lions Club, directing performances for their annual fair parade and choreographing headliners for their Saturday night showcases. I’ve also been blessed to choreograph for a variety of organizations and events across the state, including:
-
Mt. Calvary Word of Faith, under Rev. Shirley Caesar
-
NAACP Banquet (Sanford, NC)
-
Girls World Expo
-
The Boys and Girls Club of America
-
PDY and Stop the Violence events
-
Sanford StreetFest
-
And many more local community programs and initiatives
Why Dance? Why PTDA?
Dance is more than movement—it’s self-expression, healing, joy, and opportunity. It has opened doors for me that I never could have imagined, and it’s my mission to offer those same doors to every child who walks through ours.
At Prime Time Dance Academy, we believe in building personal relationships with each student and creating a unique experience tailored to every dancer. Because no two students are the same, and every dancer deserves to shine in their own way.
Now—let’s untap that potential, together.
With love,
Kamaria Hooker
